Time to Care for our business community

Working in partnership with our local community is central to our fundraising strategy. This includes engaging with local businesses, employers, and companies to create meaningful relationships across Somerset so we can continue delivering care for our shared community.

Over the last four decades we have worked in a variety of ways with companies both large and small, to help raise awareness of hospice care, to support employees celebrate the lives of colleagues they have lost and to fundraise in memory of loved ones. In partnership with businesses across Somerset we have been able to raise vital funds through donations, grants and commercial sponsorship that offer a rewarding and mutually beneficial experience for all.

As a well-known Somerset brand, and significant employer of 350 people, with access to some 1,000 volunteers, we support almost 5,000 local people through our care each year. At the same time our community engagement work, fundraising events, and retail operation with its network of 31 shops, means the St Margaret’s brand reaches rights across Somerset touching the lives of thousands. So, working with St Margaret’s can also be great for business. Whatever your motivation, there are plenty of ways you can get involved and make a difference. We’d love to talk to you.

If you are looking for a cause to support during the year, we’d love to hear from you.

Together we will create a bespoke calendar of engaging events and opportunities, tailored to help meet your business goals and corporate social responsibility needs. We will be on hand to advise how your staff can get involved in fundraising activities, as well as volunteering time and skills.

From taking part in our annual Wear it Yellow campaign, to entering teams into our Colour Run or offering staff team building opportunities in our retail warehouse, or perhaps in the grounds of either of our hospices, there are plenty of practical ways you can support St Margaret’s. And our newest member of the team Busy Bee mascot is always on hand to visit your premises or appear at events to rally staff and help inject some fun to your fundraising activities!

We have several sponsorship opportunities, which offer both naming rights for companies, as well as branding and PR opportunities, plus employee engagement activities. From mass public participation events targeting families, through to black-tie balls attended by other local companies, our portfolio of events offers a range of commercial opportunities to suit a range of budgets.

Payroll Giving, also known as Give as You Earn (GAYE), is one of the simplest and most efficient ways for employees to support us. The scheme allows you to automatically give a gift to us each payday before tax is taken out of your pay, so it is also tax-efficient for you! The scheme is easy to opt in and out of, giving you full control over your gift to the hospice. For employers, payroll-giving enables your staff to support the causes that they are passionate about. It’s easy and low cost to set up and manage, and you can track your overall giving as a business too. Find out more here.

Every year St Margaret’s organises a Charity Black Tie Ball – it’s a sell out for 2024, but we are already putting in plans for our 45th anniversary Ball in February 2025.

If you would like to register your interest for the 2025 event email us at funraising@st-margarets-hospice.org.uk. Sponsorship of the Ball will also be available as well as table sales. It’s a great opportunity to extend your own corporate hospitality to clients and customers, or simply a chance to say thank you and treat your own staff.

Volunteering for St Margaret's provides a very real opportunity for staff development, both individually and as part of a team. From joining our Event Crew to gardening at our hospices, we have a wide variety of opportunities that staff can get stuck in to. If you think that your workforce can support the hospice by giving your time to help build our capacity, then please do take a look at current opportunities and get in touch. Current opportunities include event volunteers at our Colour Run in May.

If you are fundraising with friends and family or even colleagues, companies will show their support of their employees through match funding. Talk to your employer to understand whether it’s something they do and start fundraising today. It means your efforts go that much further, usually up to a certain amount, effectively doubling your donation.

If you would simply like to make donation to acknowledge and support the work of the hospice, you can do so online or via BACS transfer. Or if you prefer, we are still happy to receive cheques by post. You can donate using our secure online payment system here or by sending a cheque made payable to “St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice” to: St Margaret’s Hospice, Heron Drive, Bishops Hull, Taunton TA1 5HA.
