We have specialist in-patient beds in our Taunton hospice, supporting patients with complex needs. Our specialist team of doctors, nurses, therapists and volunteers provide individual palliative care and support in homely and comfortable surroundings.
The unit has single rooms and ward areas. In addition, we have an independent living flat, equipped for rehabilitation and enabling independence.
As well as treating each patient's symptoms and controlling pain, we care for the emotional, psychological and spiritual needs of each person with respect and sensitivity. We also offer a wide range of complementary therapies, such as aromatherapy, massage, reflexology and diversional therapy for patients.
Once symptoms have been controlled, 3 in 10 patients were able to return home. We work with social workers, occupational therapists and community teams to make sure this happens safely and successfully. We support carers and families offering training, where required, to ensure safe discharge.
Patients may remain at the hospice for end of life care if this is best for them and we have facilities for some family members to stay.
