We have been caring for the people of Somerset for 45 years, and this has only been possible with the support of our wonderful community. The money we raised together on 19 & 20 June will support our strategy to enhance our care for patients and their loved ones across Somerset. Over the next five years, we hope to reach people much earlier in their journey with a life-limiting illness, so they can live well for as long as possible.
We will continue to update you on our progress, and, as we always have, we will keep our patients at the heart of what we do.
Hazel’s Story
Hazel was an extremely creative and caring person, who loved to do DIY, garden, and spend time with her friends and family. Her childhood best friend, Dawn, fondly remembers, “she was like a social butterfly, whereas I’m more like a social slug.” At just 44 years old, Hazel was admitted to the hospice’s In-Patient Unit due to an incurable brain tumour. Dawn remembers that the quality of St Margaret’s care was outstanding; “They looked after Hazel right until the end—made her feel special right until the end. Because she was special. Very special.”
The money raised through our Every Moment Counts Appeal will help us create more opportunities for people like Hazel, Dawn, and Annie to spend precious moments together.
