Gifts in Wills

Remember St Margaret’s in your Will

Your Gift is our Future, Help Hospice Care Live on. We’ve been caring for generations. A gift in your Will today can help protect hospice care for all, for now, forever.

Your Gift is Our Future

Thank you for considering leaving a gift in your Will to St Margaret’s. For 45 years, we have championed a simple but important belief – that people facing a life-limiting illness deserve the best possible care and compassion.

We’re here to help our patients live as well as they can for as long as possible, supporting them in setting goals and increasing their quality of life. We’re here to help give our patients and their loved one’s precious moments to treasure, enabling them to embrace the life they have left. And when the time comes, we’re here to bring peace, comfort, and dignity to our patients at the end of their lives.

A gift in your Will could help people like David & Lynda, watch their story here:

Each year we help over 4,800 people across Somerset and we’re determined to be there for anyone who needs us in the future – but we can’t do this on our own. It costs approximately £15,000,000 a year to deliver our specialist care. With demand for our services increasing – that figure is growing quickly.

Today, one in three of our patients is cared for thanks to gifts left in Wills. Can you help us safeguard our care for future generations and include a gift in your Will?

However big or small, your gift will help to ensure we are here for our community when it matters most, and protect our hospice care for all, for now, and forever.

Leaving a gift to St Margaret’s, whether it is large or small will enable us to keep delivering the very best care to the people of Somerset. All gifts make a difference and are valued – whether you chose to leave your whole estate or a specific amount.

Your solicitor can help you decide what type of legacy is right for you, based on your wishes and circumstances. There are three different types of legacy gifts: specific, pecuniary and residuary.

  • A specific legacy consists of a specific item of personal property
  • A pecuniary legacy consists of a specified sum of money
  • A residuary bequest is a gift of your remaining estate (or a share of it) after your debts, estate administration costs and taxes have been paid and any pecuniary/specific legacies settled.

A gift of even 1% of your estate could make an enormous difference to our patients, and your loved ones would still inherit 99%.

To retain our independence, we cannot be your nominated executor. We recommend assigning this role to a family member, friend or local solicitor that you trust will carry out your wishes as you have written in your Will.

At St Margaret’s we welcome legacy gifts of all sizes. An unrestricted gift, which allows us to spend the donation where it is most needed in the future is always preferred. However, where we can, we will honour requests to fund specific areas of our work.

You can change your Will at any time by creating a new Will or adding a codicil to an existing Will (only valid in certain circumstances). You should speak to a solicitor to ensure your Will is valid and covers all legal formalities. We can also provide appropriate wording should you wish to include St Margaret’s Hospice.
