Kerry started her role as Assistant Community Fundraiser at St Margaret’s Hospice in 2019 and has been thoroughly enjoying it ever since.
Since starting her role in the hospice, she now knows the amazing care that the patients and families receive throughout Somerset and is pleased that she can be part of making a positive difference within the community.
Kerry says “The hospice is a lovely place to work and I really enjoy that no two days are the same. I am proud to be part of such an amazing organisation and cannot wait to see what the future holds for the hospice.”

Community Partnerships Fundraiser

David
David joined the St Margaret’s Hospice Care team in August 2021 and always enjoys meeting the amazing people that are at the heart St Margaret’s. Whether this is the passionate staff of dedicated volunteers or the tireless supporters, he looks forward building relationships that will continue to raise funds and make sure the hospice can provide the outstanding care to its patients and their families.
David says “My role is so rewarding. The people I’ve met continue to inspire me with their dedication, passion, and enthusiasm for the hospice. I am constantly surprised by the ingenious ways the local community support us, and every day reminds me of how generous this county can be and how grateful they are for the amazing service St. Margaret’s Hospice provides.”

Community Partnerships Fundraiser

Holly joined St Margaret’s Hospice in 2022, beginning her journey as a deputy manager in one of our retail shops. Her commitment to supporting the hospice grew, leading her to join the fundraising team in 2023. As of April 2024, Holly has taken on the role of Community Fundraiser, bringing her enthusiasm and creativity to help raise vital funds for St Margaret’s Hospice.
Holly is always eager to assist with your fundraising efforts. Whether you have a fun idea in mind or need guidance on getting started, she’s here to help.
Holly says “I feel incredibly lucky and proud to have this job, contributing to raising the vital funds needed for our patients to receive the compassionate care and support they deserve from our dedicated team of nurses. Hearing the positive stories from families who have had loved ones cared for at the hospice is truly heartwarming. It reminds us every day of what a wonderful place the hospice is—not just for the patients, but for their families as well.”

Merle

Merle joined the St Margaret’s Hospice team in November 2023. Having worked in events for 10 years, she was keen to apply her skills to a cause very close to her heart, and now leads on our core fundraising and challenge events.
Merle is your main point of contact for events and is always happy to help – whether you’re a sea dipper, colour runner or Iceland trekker, don’t hesitate to get in touch!
Merle says “It brings me so much joy to see the impact of the St Margaret’s Hospice events – not only do they raise much needed funds, but they provide an opportunity for people to come together, make memories and celebrate their loved ones. The resilience of our patients and their families never ceases to amaze me, and it’s a privilege to welcome them to our events and support their fundraising.

Fundraising Project Support

Jon
Jon has been working for St Margaret’s hospice for over 3 years now and has had a couple of different roles within the organisation. Currently as Project Support he gets involved with working on the calendar of campaigns, projects and events that take place throughout the year. working alongside the team, volunteers, business sponsors and supporters who generously get involved.
It’s a huge honour to work for the hospice and our supporters constantly remind him that we live in an amazing world where people do so much for others.
The actual event days are his favourite part of working for the hospice, as he loves to see people enjoying themselves and having fun all while raising money for the hospice . “It makes my role seem so worthwhile and not really like work at all!”

Hannah
Head of Fundraising

Hannah
Hannah joined St Margaret’s in November 2023 having previously worked for The Donkey Sanctuary and Breakthrough T1D. Working in fundraising is all Hannah has ever wanted to do, and she feels proud to now be working for a hospice. Especially one as special as St Margaret’s.
Hannah says “I really enjoying meeting our wonderful supporters and hearing why they have decided to support the charity. Whether they themselves or one of their loved ones have experienced care here, their support really does make a difference. An important part of my role is to make sure supporters feel valued and understand the impact they have made. We can only continue caring for people in Somerset because of their generosity.”
In her spare time, Hannah sits on a trustee board for a child bereavement charity in Exeter.

George

George joined St Margaret’s in Summer 2023 after working in fundraising in the education sector. He’s proud to work for a charity that’s deeply rooted in the local community and inspired by the huge difference that fundraising and donations can make to help people at a really difficult time in their lives.
In George’s role, he oversees our Supporter Experience team, fundraising database and campaigns and communications such as Light up a Life and our regular Sunflower Newsletter.
George says: “I really value hearing and reading the stories of our patients, their families and friends, and from our supporters. These often remind me of the fantastic difference St Margaret’s care makes to people each day. It’s a real privilege for me to know how much we can help people who need end-of-life care – and to work in close contact with the individual supporters who make that possible.”

Elizabeth
Lottery Administrator

Elizabeth looks after our incredible community of over 9,500 Weekly Prize Draw members who support the hospice by taking part in our weekly lottery. She is the first port of call for any queries they may have about their membership and ensures the smooth running of the Draw each Friday.
One of her most exciting and memorable moments was when she rang a member to let them know they had won the Rollover Prize of £10,000!! It was only the second time since the Draw began back in 1997 that someone had won such a large amount and generated quite a bit of interest in the days leading up to the Draw itself.

Committed Giving Manager

Kim
Kim joined the St Margaret’s Hospice team in May 2023 with a passion for hospice care and first-hand experience of the care St Margaret’s provide. Having worked in the fundraising sector for 6 years, she wanted to utilise her skills, helping to raise vital funds for St Margaret’s to support local patients and families.
She has had several roles since she started with us, joining as a Trust Fundraising Officer, she helped secure a number of grants in her first year before pivoting into the role of Supporter Development Fundraiser.
In her current role she manages our Committed Giving and is the main point of contact for Legacy enquiries, Weekly Prize Draw, Regular Giving and In Memory.
Kim says “Working for St Margaret’s is incredibly humbling; we meet so many wonderful people who want to help in so many ways. Whether it’s sharing their story, raising money for us by taking on one of our challenges, signing up to the lottery or leaving us a gift in their Will. Their combined efforts keep hospice care going. I feel so privileged that I’m able to do a job that makes a difference”

We’re here to make sure all St Margaret’s supporters are looked after really well and keep in touch with you for as long as you’d like to support the hospice. We handle most post, calls and emails from supporters and ensure donations are recorded correctly, in particular so that we can thank you for the brilliant difference you make supporting St Margaret’s patients and their loved ones.

Ruth
Supporter Experience & Data Lead

Ruth
Ruth joined St Margaret’s in 2004 when the Hospice in Yeovil opened working in fundraising on the finance side, overseeing donations, Gift Aid claims and banking reconciliation. In 2010 she also took on an additional part-time role on the Yeovil In-patient Unit as a Health Care Assistant, where she saw firsthand how the hospice provides care, comfort, dignity and companionship to those in need and be a source of strength and support during life’s most difficult moments. In 2024 Ruth moved to her current role; Supporter & Experience Data Lead where she supports the income generation, overseeing the management of data across a range of established databases. She also manages the Supporter Experience Team who, are the first point of contact for the public and will help with queries and forward them onto the appropriate team(s).
Ruth says: ‘I knew 20+ years ago the hospice was in my heart and a much-needed service for the community, and I have not looked back. I feel privileged to be part of the St Margaret’s Team, knowing what a difference we all make to so many people suffering with terminal illnesses.

Susan
Supporter Experience Officer

Susan
Susan joined St Margaret’s Hospice in 2017 as the Fundraising Volunteer Officer after taking voluntary redundancy from Dorset Police. With a wealth of experience from her long career in Social Work and Community Development, Susan quickly applied her skills to recruit and develop a passionate team of Fundraising Volunteers.
In 2020, Susan transitioned to her current role as Supporter Experience Officer, where she focuses on nurturing relationships with St Margaret’s wonderful supporters and assisting the wider team with supporter engagement.
Reflecting on her time with the charity, Susan says: “Having been a volunteer and a trustee with a variety of charities since the age of 12, I was thrilled to be able to spend the autumn of my working life with such an amazing charity. It has been a privilege to witness the dedication and care of our exceptional clinical team and the selflessness of our volunteers, who ensure the hospice remains open to all who need it.”
As Susan looks forward to retiring in December 2025, she’s already planning a return as a volunteer, continuing her lifelong commitment to giving back.

Terena
Supporter Experience Officer

Terena
Terena joined St Margaret’s Hospice as the West Somerset Community Fundraiser in 2017 after being made redundant as a fundraising manager from Barnardo’s. A year later Terena transferred to the Sedgemoor fundraiser role and then to the South Somerset fundraiser, so she really has covered the whole county and made many fantastic contacts along the way. Terena moved from direct front line fundraising to working the in Taunton Hospice office for the legacy department and then the lottery department, so has a good all-round experience of many arms of fundraising.
Currently Terena is a Supporter Experience Officer at the Taunton hospice.
Terena says: “My favourite part of the role is talking to our wonderful supporters and those family members who have experienced the amazing care of their loved ones at the hospice. They have so many heart-warming memories it makes me feel very humble and immensely proud to work for such an amazing organisation. I am incredibly lucky to be part of this family.”
