Ward Volunteer

St Margaret’s is looking for people to join the team who will bring their skills, talent and enthusiasm to the heart of our organisation as we respond to the changing needs of our community.

This is a voluntary role at Taunton Hospice.

Time commitment

  • The commitment of a Ward Volunteer is discussed and agreed by the Volunteer Coordinator and the Volunteer prior to commencement of role.
  • You are required to attend induction and update training.

Mornings 9.30-1.30 (4hrs) - Saturday

Afternoons 2.30-4.30 (2hrs) - Tue, Wed, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday

Evenings 5.00-7.30 (2.5hrs) - Wed, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday

 

Brief description of main tasks and activities

The Ward Volunteer is responsible for enhancing the care being given to the patients, by all the staff forming the multi-disciplinary team working within the Inpatient Unit.

  • Providing non-medical support, ensuring the best possible service and care for the patient
  • Providing a welcoming and relaxing environment for patients and visitors
  • Providing hospitality services including drinks for patients and visitors, replenishing water jugs and assisting with serving meals
  • Social interaction with patients and visitors putting them at ease. Reporting any worries, concerns or fears expressed either by patients or visitors to the nurses
