Across our community we estimate that each year some 5,500 require end-of-life care. Currently St Margaret’s reaches approximately half of them. That means there are individuals and families who are not receiving the support they require or deserve. St Margaret’s cannot directly reach everyone, but as experts in end of life care, we can and do, enable others to make sure that families have support and reassurance when they need it most. You can help us to keep doing more…

Partnership is key.

We work alongside our colleagues in the wider healthcare sector to ensure that best practice and strategies to help those that are dying are shared. We have pioneered the use of technology to ensure greater connectivity across the county for patients, healthcare providers and the hospice. And we were one of the first UK hospices to become an ECHO Hub in 2018, allowing us to share our specialist knowledge with other care providers in Somerset through an innovative video conferencing platform.

And in 2020, in response to the challenges of Covid, we were proud to share our Yeovil hospice facilities with Yeovil District Hospital’s haematology and oncology department – ensuring that cancer patients are able to continue with their planned treatments while alleviating the pressures on the hospital.

While we receive some funding from the NHS each year, we still need to raise more than £5.5M to pay for our core clinical care. Last year was obviously a tough year for us, as it was for everyone, but we have been overwhelmed by the dedication and generosity of our supporters and thanks to you we have been able to adapt and keep on caring for patients and their families.

To learn how your gift can make an impact now, and in the future, please do call Liam Cottrell on 01823 346954, who will be happy to have a conversation about your interests and how we can help meet your philanthropy goals.

Please note calls to and from the hospice may be recorded for training and quality purposes.

Trusts & Foundations

Grants from charitable Trusts and Foundations enable us to continue providing high quality 24-hour care to patients and their families across Somerset. The relationships that we develop with funders contributes towards underwriting the costs of delivering all aspects of end of life provision.  Whether that’s helping to pay for the care we provide on our in-patient unit, or covering the cost of supporting people in the comfort of their own homes, where the majority of our work is conducted, grants make a significant impact on what we can achieve each year.

Thanks to recent grants we have been able to:

  • fund our Family Support Service this year, which helps children and young people come to terms with the loss of parent or family member;
  • pay for a new oven, so that our cookery classes for bereaved carers can start again;
  • cover the costs of our out of hours advice line for six months to ensure that our community has had somewhere to turn to during lockdown;
  • purchase specialist medical equipment, helping us to improve the care we can provide.

Working together to achieve more

Building long term partnerships is important to us, as it provides us with regular and planned income, but at the same time offers you the opportunity to get to really get to know and understand the impact of your giving.

In return we can provide you with tailored updates on the outcomes of your support and we will work with you to connect you with the areas of our work that you are most passionate about, ensuring your donation is spent in accordance with your wishes. And when we are able to open up the hospice again we would be delighted to invite you in to meet with the team and to see first-hand how your support is making an impact. In the meantime we are setting up video-call updates for those who are interested.

If you would like to discuss philanthropic giving or find out how we can work with your trust or foundation, or if you would like to join one of our update calls, please do get in touch with Liam Cottrell, our Grants & Major Gifts Manager on 01823 346954.

Please note calls to and from the hospice may be recorded for training and quality purposes.

With your support we can achieve so much more.
