Jump feet first into Christmas with the annual St Margaret’s Santa Abseil!
Are you ready for an unforgettable festive adventure? Join us on Sunday, 1 December for a Santa Abseil, where you’ll descend 60 feet down the breathtaking Cheddar Gorge, all in support of our hospice.
Sponsored by Blackdown Finance, this event is your chance to make this Christmas truly special—whether it’s for the thrill, the views, or the cause. Suit up in your Santa gear, gather your courage, and abseil down one of Somerset’s most iconic locations. With your family and friends cheering you on, it’s a heart-racing, festive experience you won’t want to miss!
After completing the abseil, you’ll be greeted at the bottom with a well-earned medal and a festive mince pie. Whether you’re an adrenaline junkie or just looking for a fun way to raise funds for a great cause, the Santa Abseil is an event for everyone.
Last year, 50 brave Santas came together to conquer the gorge, raising an incredible £12,500 for the hospice. This year, we’re aiming to beat that—and we need your help!
One of last year’s Santas, Phillippa, a long-time St Margaret’s receptionist, took on the challenge with her daughter, Lisa. Phillippa wasn’t fazed by being the oldest participant.

No previous abseil experience is required to take on this amazing challenge, so what are you waiting for? Book your place now and get involved! Tickets to this year’s Santa Abseil cost just £35, and you’ll have to raise at least £125 sponsorship prior to the event for St Margaret’s Hospice.
By taking part in the Santa Abseil and raising your sponsorship you could pay for a specialist Community Nurse visit for one of the hospice’s local patients being cared for at home and an hour’s support to one of St Margaret’s patients at home by one of their Adviceline nurses. The money you give makes a big difference.
