Alison's Volunteering Story

Long-time Volunteer Alison Holland Overcomes Personal Loss and Illness to Continue Supporting St Margaret’s Hospice

We are deeply grateful to Alison Holland, who has been volunteering with St Margaret’s Hospice for over eight years, alongside her boss, Linda Ireland. Alison’s journey has seen her support various locations, and she is currently volunteering at our Wincanton furniture shop.

Alison’s connection to St Margaret’s became even more personal after the loss of her daughter at the age of 37, who left behind a young child, and later the passing of her father, Philip. It was this tragic loss that inspired Alison to give her time to the hospice, having been a loyal supporter for many years.

During her own battle with cancer, Alison received much-needed support from Linda, her manager, who kept in regular contact throughout her treatment. When Alison felt well enough to return, Linda suggested a phased approach to ease her back into volunteering. Alison was warmly welcomed by our customers, who were delighted to see her again and shared their heartfelt well-wishes.

Alison’s strength and dedication to St Margaret’s is truly inspiring, and we are honoured to have her as part of our hospice community.
