Cash Collection Volunteer

St Margaret’s Hospice Care is looking for an individual to join the team who will bring their skills, talent, and enthusiasm to the heart of our organisation.

Please note this is a voluntary role.

About you

If you have a passion for supporting the income growth and brand awareness of your local hospice and love a varied role, we’d love you to join us! We are looking for Collection Volunteers to join our Fundraising team to increase sustainable income at St Margaret’s through the collection of blue tins, sunflower badges etc. across Somerset. This role will also enable you to collect on behalf of St Margaret’s Hospice Care through manned bucket collections, street collections and other venues.

What we offer in return

  • The opportunity to make a real difference for those in your local community
  • Full induction led by the hospice’s Volunteer Co-ordinators, including Volunteer Resource Folder
  • Additional training can be attended, if appropriate to the role
  • Regular contact and support from your hospice fundraising contact and Volunteer Co-ordinators
  • Regular update opportunities such as newsletters and events
  • ID volunteer badge and branded St Margaret’s Hospice Care t-shirt
  • Travel and out of pocket expenses will be paid.

Time commitment

  • This role is very varied and required on an ad hoc basis. You will receive regular updates via email from the Fundraising Team, where you can pick and choose where you’d like to help out – the choice is yours!
  • You are required to attend induction and update training.

Brief description of main tasks and activities

  • As a Collection Volunteer, you will be responsible for issuing and replacing any tins within your area, on a regular basis
  • You will be responsible for collecting cash at manned bucket collections. Please note, duration of shifts will depend on the collection itself, but you will always receive a separate briefing prior
  • Working with the Community Partnerships Team to increase the number of sites in your area to ensure maximum coverage and growth of collection tins and manned bucket collections across Somerset
  • Ensuring that all corresponding paperwork is complete on issue and replacement of collection tins, such as receipts and Site Holder’s Agreements are returned to the Community Partnerships Team in a timely manner. Please note training will be provided.
  • Ensuring that all corresponding equipment is returned to the Community Partnerships Team in a timely manner, after a manned collection has taken place e.g., return sealed buckets, banners etc.
  • Communicating with the Community Partnerships Team on a regular basis, wherever necessary
  • Ensure that you follow St Margaret’s Hospice Care’s policies and procedures at all times, especially when handling cash
  • To act as an ambassador for St Margaret’s Hospice Care

You do not need any specific experience or qualifications to carry out the role of a Collections Volunteer, but the role may be suitable for you if you:

  • Enjoy meeting and talking to new people
  • Are happy to travel across Somerset
  • Feel confident and happy to handle cash
  • Enjoy variety
  • Are confident in cold calling
  • Are keen to support, raise funds and the profile of St Margaret’s Hospice Care, supporting people who are living with a life-limiting illness
  • Are able to adhere to St Margaret’s Hospice Care’ policies and procedures at all times whilst volunteering
  • Are willing to represent the hospice and wear branded uniform, whilst volunteering.
