Glorious Gardens Volunteer

Volunteer to help us run our charity open gardens campaign across Somerset.

Roles: Cash handling, assisting with refreshments or parking, directing visitors, being an ambassador for the hospice.

Why we need you

As a community-funded charity, fundraising is vital to ensure we can continue providing our care across the community. One of our much-loved fundraising initiatives is the Glorious Gardens scheme — a beautiful celebration of nature and community. With the generous support of garden owners who open their gates to the public, this event raises crucial funds for our services.

We would love for volunteers to assist at specific garden openings during the scheme. It’s a great opportunity to visit these beautiful gardens, speaking with the community and supporting raise funds for the hospice.

This role would suit someone who:

  • Enjoys meeting new people and engaging with the public
  • Likes spending time outdoors
  • Is comfortable handling money and using basic tech (e.g. tablets, card machines)
  • Has a passion for the charity’s cause and a willingness to dedicate time and effort
  • Wants to support a great cause whilst having a fantastic time.

 

What you will be doing

Different garden openings will require different tasks, and this will be explained in the brief. Potential duties include:

  • Assiting with and directing parking
  • Taking payments and handling cash
  • Serving refreshments
  • Acting as a positive ambassador for St Margaret’s Hospice in the local community.

What we need from you

  • Complete an application form
  • Volunteers under 18 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian

Next steps and what to expect

We want you to have the very best volunteering experience. You will receive:

  • A hospice induction plus additional training specific to the role
  • Pre-task activity briefs and instructions
  • Ongoing support from the Community Partnerships Fundraiser.
