Why we need you
As a charity, we rely on the support of dedicated volunteers in our shops and warehouses to help raise vital funds for patient care and family support. By donating your time, you’ll help keep our shops running smoothly and ensure we continue to make a difference in the community. Your contribution supports our mission to provide compassionate care and support to those facing a life-limiting illness.
What you will be doing
As a Research and Stock Valuer Volunteer, you’ll be part of a friendly and supportive team based at our Walford Cross warehouse or in one of our shops. You’ll help identify and value donated items that have been selected to be sold on eBay. Your tasks may include:
- Using a computer to research the value of donated items
- Identifying unusual, vintage, or high-value goods suitable for online sale
- Recording item details clearly and accurately
- Supporting the team to maximise the value of donations for our hospice.
This is a great opportunity to gain experience in online retail, develop your research skills, and make a real difference by helping us raise vital funds.
The skills you will need
We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds and experiences. For this role, we’re looking for people who:
- Are comfortable using a computer along with other technology
- Have a keen eye for detail
- Can work independently and also as part of the wider Retail Team
- Have an interest or specialist knowledge with vinyl, antiques, books, jewellery cameras, watches or furniture (this not essential as full training will be provided)
- Have good communication and listening skills
- Are reliable and able to follow instructions
- Show a good level of common sense and a practical capability.

What we need from you
To volunteer with us, we ask that you:
- Commit to a regular shift (we’re flexible and will work around your availability)
- Register as a volunteer with us using our Volunteer Management System
- Provide us with two references
- Attend a taster session which will be agreed with the Shop Manager or Digital Sales Manager
- Successfully complete a volunteer induction programme
- Complete any required training (e.g. health & safety)
- Follow our policies on confidentiality, health and safety, and safeguarding.
