At St Margaret’s Langport shop, retail volunteer Mary Peto embodies the spirit of the campaign. Christmas is Mary’s favourite time of year, and each winter she makes it her personal mission to find homes for every single teddy bear in the shop.
With their little faces looking out from the shelves, I can’t bear to think of them left behind. I always tell customers, ‘We can’t let this bear spend Christmas alone; he needs a home!”Mary
In support of Mary’s mission, St Margaret’s charity shops across Somerset are getting to work ensuring that absolutely every bear has a home for Christmas – and they need your help!
Pop into one of 31 St Margaret’s shops across Somerset, to find the perfect bear for your child this Christmas. It’s quick and easy to find affordable festive magic. From sparkly party outfits and Secret Santa surprises to dining tables, sofas, and home décor, there’s something for every budget and every home.
Shoppers can also browse the hospice’s eBay store, full of antique gems and vintage finds – perfect for those looking for something unique while shopping sustainably.
Choosing pre-loved gifts like my teddy bears isn’t just about saving money. It’s about making a difference – for the planet and for your community. Every pound spent in a St Margaret’s shop helps ensure the hospice can continue providing free, specialist hospice care across Somerset.”Mary
Last year, St Margaret’s charity shops saved over 1.5 million kilograms of items from heading to landfill and made over 19,600 tonnes of CO2 savings – just by recycling pre-loved items and finding new homes for them!
On top of this, St Margaret’s Hospice supports over 4,800 patients and their loved ones each year. This care is only possible thanks to the generosity of the Somerset community, whose donations and purchases help fund the £15 million it costs annually to run the charity’s vital services.
So, why not do something amazing this Christmas? Whether you’re hunting for a unique gift, finding an outfit for your Christmas party, or giving a bear a home, every purchase makes a difference.
