Now in its sixth year, in partnership with JustHelping, St Margaret’s Christmas Tree Collection just keeps on growing! This year, we expanded our postcode coverage, meaning more supporters than ever could take part and the results were truly tree-mendous!
We are excited to share that we had over 2,713 trees registered and raised in excess of £47,052 in voluntary donations. This is the most we’ve raised to date, which is just incredible!
Working together across Somerset
This year, we were proud to work in partnership with Children’s Hospice South West, teaming up to collect Christmas trees across the TA1, TA2 and TA3 postcode areas. By working together, we were able to reach more households, make collections more efficient, and ensure even more trees helped support hospice care locally.
As a hospice, we believe in the power of collaboration, bringing organisations together for the benefit of families across our communities.
Every tree collected helped support local hospice care, and we can’t thank our community enough for getting involved.
We were so pleased to be working alongside St Margaret’s Hospice Care once again to bring this easy, green and charitable way to recycle your real Christmas tree, while raising vital funds for two local charities who do such vital work here in the South West. The money raised from collecting and recycling trees will help make a huge difference for people at their most difficult times."Ellie Baxter, Media Officer at Children's Hospice South West
Powered by people (and a lot of muscle!)
From early starts to full on days out on the road, our amazing volunteers wrapped up warm and got stuck in. Familiar faces returned for another year, joined by plenty of new helpers, all working together to make sure every registered tree was collected safely and efficiently.
Between lifting, loading, navigating routes, directing traffic at drop-off points and keeping everyone fuelled with hot drinks, our volunteers gave hundreds of hours of their time. The collection once again showed Somerset at its very best!
We were delighted to support St Margaret's Hospice's Christmas Tree Collection once again this year. Five teams of enthusiastic Wessex Water volunteers helped out this year – it’s great fun and a really positive way to help support such a vital local charity in our community. We’re looking forward to collecting even more trees next year.“Jenny Staton, Community Engagement Manager at Wessex Water
Good for the planet too!
Once collected, the Christmas cheer didn’t stop there. Every tree was responsibly recycled thanks to our brilliant local tree surgeons and recycling partners. Thousands of trees were chipped rather than sent to landfill, helping to reduce waste and support more sustainable celebrations. The resulting woodchip will be put to good use, including being reused across our hospice gardens, giving each tree a new purpose long after the festive season ends.
A huge thank you to our sponsors and supporters
This year’s collection wouldn’t have been possible without the generous support of our headline sponsors Oneline Surveys and Qube Construct Ltd. Thank you to them for helping make it all happen.
We’re also incredibly grateful to the many local businesses who provided vehicles, equipment, chipping services, and refreshments, as well as our partners at JustHelping for keeping the logistics running smoothly behind the scenes.
Once again, Somerset has shown what an amazing community it is. The Christmas Tree Collection just keeps getting bigger and better, and this year was no exception. Collecting over 2,700 trees, raising more than £47,000, and doing it all in a sustainable way is a fantastic achievement. None of it would be possible without our brilliant supporters and volunteers.”Steph Cox, Head of Engagement at St Margaret's Hospice
Why it matters
The fantastic £47,052 raised through this year’s Christmas Tree Collection will help St Margaret’s Hospice continue providing free, compassionate care to people across Somerset and their families.
With most of our care delivered in patients’ homes, every donation helps us be there when it matters most; offering comfort, dignity and support at every step.
Looking ahead
With six successful collections under our belts, we’re already looking forward to next year. Thank you to everyone who registered a tree, volunteered their time, sponsored the event, or cheered us on from the sidelines.
Here’s to community spirit, recycled Christmas trees, and supporting hospice care across Somerset – we can’t wait to do it all again next year!
If you’d like to get involved in future events or volunteer with St Margaret’s Hospice, we’d love to hear from you.
Thank you
To all of the businesses who lended us vans, donated their time, chipped trees, or supported us via gifts in kind, we are forever grateful.
