Hayley’s Story
This May, the Yeovil hospice was filled with anticipation. Hayley Mills, one of our wonderful volunteers, was preparing to say goodbye to something very special: her beloved dreadlocks.
Volunteers are an essential and valued part of our team here at St Margaret’s Hospice Care and, thanks to the generous support of over 900 incredible volunteers, we can continue to be there for around 5,000 people across Somerset, every year.
Whether you want to make use of your skills, learn new skills, gain valuable experience, get more involved with your local community, meet new people, or simply wish to give something back, volunteering with St Margaret’s Hospice can help make a difference.
We offer a wide range of volunteer opportunities in our hospices in Taunton and Yeovil, our retail shops, and at our fundraising events. Whether you have a few hours to spare or regular time to give, there are many rewarding volunteer roles to suit your time, experience and interests.

After retiring early, lifelong Yeovillian Avril found renewed purpose by volunteering at our Yeovil Hendford shop. Nearly 20 years on, her story is one of community, creativity, and the lasting joy of giving back.
“I love volunteering at the Chard shop, the team of staff and volunteers there is absolutely amazing.”
