Patient and Lisa in Sunflower Centre Taunton

Our Sunflower Centre

Our Sunflower Centre Day Hospices provide specialist physical, emotional, and social support for palliative patients in Somerset.

Sunflower Centre Day Hospice

At the St Margaret’s Hospice Sunflower Centres, we provide specialist support and advice for patients facing a life-limiting illness or advanced progressive conditions. This day hospice service is for people in Somerset who are well enough to live at home but need the specialist support and compassionate care St Margaret’s can offer, in addition to that provided by their normal health and social care services.

The Sunflower Centre teams provide a holistic service, helping meet our patients’ physical, emotional and social needs. Our enabling approach helps to empower patients and work together to build coping strategies, maximise independence and increase quality of life.

What can the Sunflower Centre help with?

The teams at our Sunflower Centres offer physical, emotional, and social support. This includes our complementary therapies, which help to improve overall well-being and increase our patients’ quality of life. We also offer more practical support, such as advice or help with claiming benefits or referrals to other services. Our day hospices in Taunton and Yeovil run activities, such as arts and crafts, games, gardening, or listening to music.

What to expect from your first visit to the Sunflower Centre

When you first visit the Sunflower Centre, you will have the opportunity to meet with a member of our team on a one-to-one basis. We will work with you to form a plan and set realistic goals. Attendance depends on your individual needs and the plan we will create with you. We offer lunch and refreshments at our day hospices and offer a range of activities.

A carer or family member may wish to come with you on your first visit; however, the Sunflower Centre is for patients only. St Margaret’s offers support for carers and family members through other services.

The Sunflower Centre Day Hospice is a time-limited service. On discharge, we will work closely with you to refer you onto other services at St Margaret’s, or external services, if appropriate.
