Last year 97 year old Geoffrey decided to organise his own fundraising event to help raise funds for the care given to his dear friend Joan, who passed away in March. Inspired by the heroics of Captain Tom he decided to walk a marathon distance over the course of a week to and from his home in Taunton to the Hospice.

Not only did he beat the time he set himself but he raised a fabulous £3,600 at the same time, and became somewhat of a local personality – doing TV interviews and appearing in the local press!

Geoffrey didn’t let his age get in the way and simply set himself a goal and encouraged his friends, family and the wider community to get behind his fundraising efforts!

We helped Geoffrey to set up his Just Giving page and organised for him to speak to the media, as well as supporting him during his sunflower marathon challenge. We are here to help you too.

If you’ve been motivated by Geoffrey and have a personal reason for wanting to support St Margaret’s and organise your own event, we’d love to hear from you.

You are crucial to our work – and we simply couldn’t continue to provide our care without you!

In aid of fundraising

We are grateful to anyone who raises money ‘in aid of’ St Margaret’s Hospice Care however we do not accept any liability for any ‘in aid of’ event or fundraising.

A large proportion of our fundraising income is generated by individuals and groups who organise events ‘in aid’ of the hospice, often because they have a personal link, having lost a loved one or perhaps fundraising in memory of a friend or family member. We sometimes don’t know that these events are happening until afterwards when we receive the funds. Where we are notified of an event in advance, we will endeavour to work with the organiser to ensure they comply with the Fundraising Regulator’s Codes of Fundraising Practice, as well as meet our own expectations, but ultimately, we cannot accept liability for these events, which are organised independently.
