So that no one faces the night alone

When night falls, the world feels different.

For many people living with a life-limiting illness – and for the people who love them – the night can be the hardest time of all. Worries feel heavier. Symptoms can worsen. Reassurance feels further away.

At St Margaret’s Hospice, our clinical teams are there through every night – quietly, compassionately, and without pause – so that no one in Somerset has to face the darkness alone.

This October, you can be there for them too.

Take on the challenge

Climb Snowdon through the darkness

Starting at midnight, guided by a headtorch, determination, and experienced Mountain Leaders, you and a team of likeminded supporters will summit Snowdon – descending as the sun rises over Wales.

At the very same time, our nurses will be doing their own unseen work through the night.

  • On our In-Patient Unit, providing expert care, comfort, and reassurance
  • On our 24/7 Advice Line, answering calls from patients, carers and families when they need help most
  • Supporting people at home, helping them stay where they feel safest, even in the early hours.

Your challenge will mirror theirs – perseverance, compassion, and being there when it matters.

More about the challenge

The Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) at Night Challenge is organised in partnership with Charity Challenge, an experienced provider of fundraising adventures across the UK and overseas.

Beginning in Llanberis, in the heart of Snowdonia National Park, you’ll take on an overnight trek to the summit of Snowdon, guided by qualified and experienced Mountain Leaders. You’ll be fully supported throughout the challenge, with safety, guidance and encouragement every step of the way, before descending for a well-earned celebration breakfast at the finish.

St Margaret’s Hospice Care works with Charity Challenge to give our supporters the opportunity to take part in professionally run events that raise vital funds for hospice care in Somerset. Your fundraising will directly support St Margaret’s work caring for patients and families.

When you sign up, you’ll receive full information on training, kit, fundraising and what to expect – so you can focus on preparing for the challenge ahead, knowing everything is in safe hands.

"The night can be the hardest time for some of our patients. Worries can feel heavier, pain can become more intense, and loneliness can set in. That’s why our night staff are there – to offer reassurance, comfort and companionship, and to make sure no one has to face the darkness alone.”

Nicole, Registered Nurse at St Margaret's Hospice

Why your support matters

It costs millions each year to provide St Margaret’s compassionate hospice care across Somerset, and much of what we do overnight is funded by the generosity of our community.

By taking on this challenge, you’ll be helping to fund:

  • Specialist overnight care

  • Our nurse-led 24/7 Advice Line

  • Compassionate support for patients, families and carers when nights feel longest

Because illness doesn’t keep office hours. And neither do we.
