It’s been a scorching few weeks across Somerset, but St Margaret’s is gearing up for the festive season with the launch of its new fundraising event, Santa Abseil - certainly one to tick off the bucket list!
St Margaret’s is looking for thrill seeking fundraisers to tackle the Santa Abseil 60ft drop and enjoy breath-taking views of Cheddar Gorge, one of Britain’s most spectacular natural landmarks all while dressed as Santa!
It’s only £35 to secure your place, as well pledging to raise at least £125 sponsorship prior to the event for St Margaret’s Hospice Care. All participants will receive their Santa suit and no previous abseil experience is required.
This year’s event is proudly sponsored by Sheppy’s, Refresco and Rotec Hydraulics and St Margaret’s is so grateful for their support.
A spokesperson for Sheppy’s said: “As long-term supporters of the hospice we are delighted to continue our relationship by supporting the Santa Abseil. We thoroughly look forward to seeing lots of people, and some of our staff enjoying what promises to be a fantastic and fun event, raising money and awareness for this amazing charity.”
Take part in the Santa Abseil and support St Margaret's Hospice
Last year St Margaret’s Hospice supported more than 5,000 people. This care is provided because of fundraising events like the Santa Abseil, with supporters raising thousands of pounds to help provide care across Somerset. £125 sponsorship could pay for a specialist Community Nurse visit for one of the hospice’s local patients being cared for at home and an hour’s support to one of St Margaret’s patients at home by one of their Adviceline nurses.
Paul Prouse, Managing Director of Rotec Hydraulics Ltd said: “It is our great pleasure to support the hospice by sponsoring their Santa Abseil. The vital work they do to help patients with life-limiting illnesses, together with their families and carers is remarkable.”
A spokesperson for Refresco added: “Refresco are delighted to announce support of the vital work of St Margaret’s Hospice Care through sponsorship of their Santa Abseil fundraising event. For more than 40 years they have been helping patients, families, and carers face life-limiting illness, and we couldn’t be prouder to play a small part in their extraordinary history.”
The hospice is hoping participants will raise enough to pay for a weeks’ worth of community visits across Somerset. Around a hundred visits each week are made by one of the five community teams and are a vital part of the care and support offered to patients and their families.
