Patrick the Cat's Story

St Margaret’s Hospice Care has over 1,200 volunteers, helping us care for patients and their families facing a life-limiting illness across Somerset. Our volunteers come from all walks of lives, although not many of them walk with four legs!

Patrick the cat had been a permanent fixture of St Margaret’s Yeovil Hospice since it was a building site in 2003. He took a liking to the builders and made the hospice his home.

Patrick was known for his stand-offish persona when walking through the hospice, but to patients, families and carers he let his guard down and brought comfort and light relief to all.

Patrick, sadly, passed away peacefully in the Yeovil Hospice grounds in June 2019.

We’d like to say a huge 'THANK YOU' to Patrick the cat. He comforted hundreds of patients, befriended many visitors and was very much loved by the staff.
