People across Somerset can help fund vital care by taking part in the Great Somerset Tea Party.
Once again we have teamed up with Somerset Day to encourage friends, colleagues and neighbours to take time out to enjoy a cuppa and a slice of cake for a good cause.
Everyone is invited to hold their own tea party at work, school or home in the lead-up to Somerset Day, or on the day itself, Saturday, May 11. We will also be hosting events at our Taunton hospice on Friday, May 10, and at our Yeovil hospice the following day as part of our summer fete.
The Great Somerset Tea Party is organised by St Margaret's Hospice in collaboration with Somerset Day. All over the county, events will be taking place to celebrate Somerset Day, which is promoted by the not-for-profit community interest company Passion for Somerset.
Marisa Lovell-Fox, head of fundraising at St. Margaret’s Hospice, said: “We had a great response to our first Great Somerset Tea Party last year as people enjoyed the chance to socialise with colleagues and neighbours while supporting their local hospice.
“Thanks to everyone who took part, the Great Somerset Tea Party raised £16,000 – enough to pay for 160 visits to patients in their own homes by our Community Nurse Specialists. We would love to do even better this year.
“Everyone who hosts or attends an event as part of the Great Somerset Tea Party will be helping to ensure care is available to patients and families who are facing a life-limiting illness in our county.”
St. Margaret’s Hospice cared for 3,800 people across Somerset affected by a variety of life-limiting illnesses last year. We need to raise £9.5m each year to deliver our range of care and support for free.
