St. Margaret's Hospice is joining with Hospice UK and other hospices across the country to promote the 'Open Up Hospice Care' campaign, which aims to raise awareness of the role of hospices and to widen access to the care they provide.

Hospices across the UK provide support to patients, families and carers facing a life-limiting illness, including medical care, spiritual and emotional support and also complementary therapies to promote well-being. Hospice care is available to all people, regardless of who they are; their sexual orientation, ethnicity, disability or illness.

However, according to analysis published by Hospice UK, 1 in 4 people who need hospice care are not getting the support they need. St. Margaret's Hospice is asking their Somerset community to help change this.

St. Margaret’s Hospice has been at the heart of Somerset’s community for over 37 years, delivering high quality, responsive and compassionate care to patients and their families facing a life-limiting illness. With two hospice sites; one in Yeovil and one in Taunton, as well as five community based teams caring for patients in their own homes, we continually strive to reach everyone in the community that needs our care. We support over 3,200 people every year.

It costs over £10million every year for St. Margaret's Hospice to continue providing care to thousands of people, and we rely on the generosity of our local Somerset community to raise £7.5million of this total.

To help us continue to reach all those that need us, St. Margaret's is asking the Somerset community to help 'Open Up Hospice Care' by making a donation. If you would like to donate, please click here.

You can also help to raise awareness of the importance of hospices by getting involved on social media. Share the 'Open Up Hospice Care' video and use the hashtag #OpenUpHospiceCare, and don't forget to tag @st_marg.

Thank you for your support. Together, we can ensure that everyone facing a life-limiting illness gets the support and care that they need.
